대장암 수술 시 항문 보존 위해 노력
주요 진료 분야인 대장암, 직장암 치료의 권위자로, 우리나라 전 국민의 대장암 예방을 위한 계몽활동에 활발히 참여하고 있다. 암의 치료가 환자 삶에 미치는 영향을 최소화하기 위한 방법을 연구하는 의사다. 방사선 치료 후 자기공명영상촬영(MRI) 검사를 통해 암이 줄어든 상태를 측정함으로써 불필요한 수술을 예방하고 직장·항문 보존율을 높일 수 있다는 연구결과를 발표하기도 했다. 또한 면역 치료와 관련된 많은 연구를 진행하며 대장암 면역치료에 선도적인 역할을 하고있다.
